My first attempt at scratchboarding... I've just started with this one. The finished picture will show the full mane and a part of his legs. I'd like to colour him with inks or watercolour in the end - but I'm not sure yet. It's hard to get a material for scraperboardwork in Germany. Please tell me what you think... any suggestions on technique are welcome

Thank you. I'm not quiet happy with it yet. I'd love to have some more depth and contrast but I'm afraid to ruin the whole board if I keep scratching

This looks amazing, keep up the great work <3
I'd wait until the very end and see if you really feel like it needs color or something like that thought, I personally like black and white scratchboards, but I think adding color could make the lion 'pop' a little more :)

Thank you for your advice. Yes, I'm going to do this - try my best in b/w and see if he really needs colour. I was so impressed by the coloured work of :iconheatherzart: that I desperately wanted to try the inking process. (her work is the reason why I started on scratchboarding in the first place) But all in good time. It won't be the last scrathboard that I'm doing and I might aswell start of with the basics before I try the expert stuff :D

Ahh I've been down that road before, I get ahead of myself because I see someone else doing all these amazing things and then I realize I'm no good at it because they've had tons of practice and I have not haha
I can't wait to see the turnout ^^

yeah... that's about what I'm feeling like at the moment. But I still love to discover new techniques. There'll always be someone better than you and me... but as I said, we keep learning until the last of our days. That's what makes live worth living.

Nice start! I love the ear and the eye. I can see that he's looking up - it's hard to do when working in just b&w, and the gnarly fur in the ear is great. Watch your placement of scratches in the nose area, there are a lot of tight swirls and changes of direction to bring to life. Can't wait to see the rest!
